High Weald Mushroom Foraging at Glottenham Castle

Discover the fungi of the High Weald on a guided foraging course at Glottenham Castle Camping, near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. The farm’s ancient woodland, open meadows and wetlands provide a varied landscape to explore, with each season bringing different discoveries.

We’ll begin with a welcome and an introduction to responsible collecting, the rules, regulations and best practices. Then we’ll spend around 2.5 hours exploring at an easy pace, examining the mushrooms and plants we find along the way. Your instructor will explain the features that help distinguish edible species from poisonous lookalikes, giving you practical identification skills to build on.

There’s time to pause for a homemade refreshment during the walk, followed by a shared meal from foraged food. Expect a seasonal dish with suitable finds from the day incorporated where available.
Please ensure you have a backup meal for your child.

The learning continues afterwards: we’ll email you our course notes focusing on currently available edible mushrooms, with further reading about the species encountered and discussed.

Bring sturdy footwear and dress for the weather—the ground can be uneven and muddy.

Travelling from London: Direct trains run from London Charing Cross and London Bridge to Robertsbridge, with journeys taking approximately 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the service. Book a taxi in advance for the onward journey to the farm and check train times before travelling.
There is no parking on site.

Address: Glottenham Castle, Bishop’s Lane, Robertsbridge, East Sussex, TN32 5EB.
