Welcome to The Mushroom Walk – Foraging Courses in East Sussex & Beyond

At themushroomwalk.com, we believe that foraging is far more than simply learning which mushrooms are edible. It’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and rediscover a sense of wonder in the woodlands around us. Our guided walks, led by experienced forager Taidgh, are designed to help you build confidence, deepen your knowledge, and enjoy the calming rhythms of nature throughout the seasons.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an enthusiastic forager looking to expand your skills, our courses offer a relaxed, hands-on way to explore the wild foods that thrive across East Sussex, Kent and the South East.

Why Foraging Is Good for You

Reconnect With Nature

Foraging encourages you to step into the slow lane. When you’re searching for fungi, wild plants, or berries, your attention naturally shifts to the details. Your calendar becomes the scent of damp soil, the patterns on fallen leaves, the quiet hum of the woods. It’s a gentle, grounding practice that draws you back into the present moment.

Mental Health Benefits

Countless studies have shown that spending time in woodland reduces stress, improves mood, and supports overall well-being. Foraging adds a purposeful, mindful layer to that experience. Many people describe it as meditative — a way to switch off from busy routines, breathe deeply, and enjoy the simple pleasure of wandering outdoors with curiosity and intention.

Learn, Discover, and Grow

Each walk teaches you how to identify fungi safely, understand the ecosystems they belong to, and appreciate the hidden life of the forest. This growing knowledge builds confidence and a sense of personal achievement. Over time, many foragers find that this connection to the land becomes a meaningful part of their lives.

Sustainable, Seasonal Living

Foraging encourages respect for nature’s cycles and fosters a sustainable approach to food. You’ll learn how to harvest responsibly, understand the role fungi play in woodland health, and appreciate the value of seasonal wild ingredients.

About Taidgh – Your Guide

Taidgh (pronounced Tiger) is a passionate forager, educator, and long-time explorer of the wild woodlands of East Sussex. With years of hands-on experience studying fungi and their habitats, he has guided hundreds of people through their first steps into the world of wild mushroom identification.

Known for his calm teaching style, humour, and depth of knowledge, Taidgh makes every walk accessible and engaging — whether you’re picking your very first Chanterelle or learning how to distinguish common lookalikes. He believes strongly in foraging as a way to support mental well-being, build community, and reconnect with the natural world.

When he’s not out in the woods, you’ll find him in the unnatural position of sitting in front of a computer developing programs and web apps or growing “premium” mushrooms in his garage grow room.
