SUMMARY:Autumn Foraging at Glottenham Castle
DESCRIPTION:Explore the fungi of the High Weald on a guided Autumn foraging course at Glottenham Castle Camping\, near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. As autumn settles over the farm’s ancient woodland\, open meadows and wetlands\, cooler days and seasonal rain bring opportunities to discover mushrooms in a wonderful variety of shapes and colours. \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with a warm welcome and an introduction to responsible collecting\, including the rules and good foraging practices. Then we’ll spend around 2.5 hours exploring at an easy pace\, looking among fallen leaves\, along woodland edges and across the meadows for autumn fungi and seasonal plants. \n\n\n\nYour instructor will explain the identifying features of our finds and how to distinguish edible species from poisonous lookalikes. Whatever October’s weather brings\, you’ll gain practical experience and observation skills to build on each time you head outdoors. \n\n\n\nThere’s time to pause for a homemade refreshment during the walk\, followed by a shared meal from foraged food. Expect a seasonal dish with suitable finds from the day incorporated where available. Please ensure you have a backup meal for your child. \n\n\n\nThe learning continues afterwards: we’ll email you our course notes focusing on currently available edible mushrooms\, with further reading about the species encountered and discussed. \n\n\n\nBring sturdy footwear and dress for the weather—the ground can be uneven and muddy. \n\n\n\nTravelling from London: Direct trains run from London Charing Cross and London Bridge to Robertsbridge\, with journeys taking approximately 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes\, depending on the service. Book a taxi in advance for the onward journey to the farm and check train times before travelling. There is no parking on site. \n\n\n\nAddress: Glottenham Castle\, Bishop’s Lane\, Robertsbridge\, East Sussex\, TN32 5EB. \n\n\n\nTurn your visit into a countryside break with a stay at Glottenham\, which offers woodland cabins\, a yurt and seasonal camping. \n\n\n\nAlready booked a stay at Glottenham’s glamping site? Contact Emma for your course discount code before booking your foraging place. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTerrain and suitability\n\n\n\nComfortable\, weather appropriate clothing and footwearCup for refreshment during the walkPlate and cutlery for the meal at the end of the courseWater/drink to stay hydratedCamera\, note pad & pen \n\n\n\nIt is the responsibility of the person making the booking to ensure that they\, and anyone for whom they are purchasing a ticket\, are able to complete the walk safely on the terrain described.
